Top 5 Largest Casinos in the World

Today’s casinos have one thing in common: they are exceptionally large. Year after year, casinos continue to push the boundaries of space with impressive sizes and stunning designs. Hotels, restaurants, shops, hundreds of gaming tables and slot machines – these are the main elements you’ll find in these gigantic establishments.

You might expect the United States, known for its gambling capital Las Vegas, to dominate the list. Surprisingly, that’s not the case. China takes the lead with three of its casinos ranking at the top and setting record-breaking figures. Let’s explore the list together.

1. The Venetian Macao (China)

The world’s largest casino is located in China, with a floor space of 50,700m². Opened in 2007, it features architecture and styling inspired by the city of Venice. Owned by the Las Vegas Sands Group, the casino boasts 3,000 hotel rooms, 3,000 slot machines, 870 poker tables, a conference centre, and 24 bars and restaurants. The Venetian Macao also houses a theatre with a capacity of 15,000 spectators, regularly hosting concerts and sporting events. These features earned it the title of “World’s Best Casino” by Forbes.

2. City of Dreams Resort (Macau, China)

In second place is another casino in Macau, China, covering an area of 39,000m². Built in 2009 and owned by Melco Crown Entertainment, the resort includes 1,400 hotel rooms, 1,350 slot machines, 520 poker tables, and 14 bars and restaurants. It also offers two massive theatres, The Bubble and The Dancing Water, where the world’s largest water-based show is performed. At City of Dreams, guests can enjoy private spaces and personalised services. Its wide range of attractions has made it the top destination in the city for leisure and entertainment.

3. Foxwoods Resort (USA)

Naturally, the United States has a casino on the list as well. Surprisingly, this one isn’t in Las Vegas or Atlantic City, but in Connecticut. Originally opened as a bingo hall in 1986, Foxwoods Resort Casino now features 824 hotel rooms, 7,000 slot machines, 400 poker tables, and 29 bars and restaurants. The casino covers 31,600m². Visitors can enjoy theatres, spas, golf courses, and concert venues. Foxwoods Resort is currently the largest casino in the United States.

4. Casino Ponte 16 (Macau, China)

China is home to many of the world’s largest casinos, and Casino Ponte 16 ranks fourth. This casino spans 25,000m² and is part of the French group Accor. It combines both Chinese and European styles. The casino includes 423 hotel rooms, 320 slot machines, 150 poker tables, and 3 bars and restaurants. Its unique location in Macau’s historic centre and the Michael Jackson memorabilia shop – where you’ll find the glove worn by the King of Pop during his first moonwalk on television – make it a one-of-a-kind destination.

5. Casino Rio (South Africa)

The final casino on the list is located in South Africa, making it the largest casino on the African continent. Casino Rio has a floor area of 24,700m², 70 hotel rooms, 257 slot machines, 12 poker tables, and 2 bars and restaurants. Its design is clearly inspired by the city of Rio de Janeiro, transporting guests straight to Brazil. The casino also features a theatre, children’s play areas, and separate floors for smokers and non-smokers. Casino Rio offers a vibrant atmosphere, echoing the spirit of Rio’s famous carnival.
