Carol Jarecki
A woman of many talents, Jarecki made her name as an international chess organiser and writer, but she also had a great deal of success in the world of roulette. Gonzalo Garcia-Pelayo
Record producer Garcia-Pelayo was also a dab hand at roulette, and he spent thousands of hours studying the wheel and working out how to trick the system. Like Jarecki, he made a fortune identifying faulty wheels in land-based casinos which enabled him to better predict where the ball might fall.
Laszlo Kovacs
Finally, we have a cunning Hungarian gambler who was caught out in Australia with an ingenious (if illegal) device hidden in his shoe that enabled him to scoop hundreds of thousands in winnings. The device was a mini computer which was connected to an earpiece, and by tapping his foot underneath a roulette wheel while it was spinning was able to see how fast the wheel was going and predict where the ball was most likely to land.
